Starting A Travel Agent Business: 4 Reasons Why I Highly Recommend You Do It
Posted by admin in travel agent business on 02 11th, 2010Travel arrangements can be made online, right on an airline or cruise line’s website. This is why I recommend starting your own online travel agent business, especially if you are currently working for a travel agency. The possibilities can only continue to grow as technology continues to advance. Here are some great reasons to just go for it!
#1: Internet is the definition of the present and future
Using the internet has become so popular that even our cell phones come with high speed access. Although some would argue that our reliance on the internet has become way too out of hand, it is opening several doors to our future. So why not take advantage of what the internet can do for you? Starting an online travel agent business has the potential to be very profitable.
#2: People are becoming computer savvy
Older generations may not be as “computer savvy” as the younger generation. But this is why we say that internet will be such a big part of the future. If you are targeting young professionals, then setting up your travel agent business online is the smartest thing you’ll ever do. After all, online business will only continue to grow.
#3: People like saving time and money
Being able to make travel arrangements online can save people lots of time. Nowadays, the internet is available everywhere. So at any time, people can find your online travel agent business no matter where they are. Using the internet can also be a great money saver. Your online business will still work just like a regular travel agency, in that it saves travelers money. The only difference…you’re reaching more people!
#4: Your online travel agent business offers convenience!
The airlines and cruise lines have websites that allow shoppers to purchase tickets. But as an online agent, you can offer so many other services. Package deals and multiple travel arrangements like airline tickets, car rentals, and hotel reservations can all be found on your website. Plus, your helpful tips and reviews on several methods of travel are always available to clients.

How do I become a legitimate travel agent?
Posted by admin in travel agent business on 03 9th, 2010Has anyone ever been a travel agent or known a travel agent that made alot of money or that owned any kind of travel business and was successful? I would like to know what kind of license I need in order to be a legitimate travel agent. I am based in New York. Is there are school I need to go to or training online. What company should I affiliate myself with? Any travel agents, please give me the low down. Thanks.
I am a travel agent with YTB. The company provided me with a website that people can go on to and book there travel. They also provide all the training and support I need to be a successful travel agent. It is really a great program and I’ve already booked travel for some friends of mine and seen the commission. When you sign up with the company you get your creditials in a couple weeks after signing up. This is a very legitimate and trustworthy company that has been in the business for over 5 years. Also publicly traded. Watch this presentation for a little more information: http://www.travelproinsider.com my personal site is http://www.ytbtravel.com/kuhlber
Contact me and I will answer any questions you may have and give you more information.

What do I have to do by law to start a Travel Agent business ?
Posted by admin in travel agent business on 03 8th, 2010
If you’re in the UK, speak to your local Business Link. They can give you information on all the things that you need to do for your specific business. Most of their advice is free.
The main thing that you need to think about is what to do if you or one of your suppliers has a problem. How will customers be affected? ABTA probably has information on the industry, too.
Good luck!

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you’re interested in.
I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.
Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you’ll inevitably have as well as many you haven’t anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* How to Start a Home Based Travel Agency by Tom Ogg, Joanie Ogg,
* Start Your Own Specialty Travel & Tour Business by Entrepreneur Press
* Start Your Own Travel Agency by Adam Starchild

Can an international business degree get you a job as a travel agent?
Posted by admin in travel agent business on 02 23rd, 2010I think the question is pretty self-explanatory, but I am wondering if a degree in international business can also be used to prepare one’s self for a career as a travel agent or someone who works in the tourism industry. Thank you for answers in advance. ![]()
International business covers the trade industry while a travel agent’s job covers the leisure industry. These are two separate and unrelated occupations, even though there seems to be connection in name.
You’ll need to get a degree in hospitality (along with an agent license) to work as a travel agent.
My cousin works as a booking agent in the travel & entertainment industry.
